You can use it as one of the main ingredients in other recipes or add some different spices or vegetables to it and transform it into many different versions of things we know from our childhood. When you try out a new recipe, you find yourself craving something so comforting and satisfying like biryani and then you want to give it an opportunity to come up with a new twist! Here's how to make a chicken biryani:
Ingredients:
Baked goods need to have some basic ingredients, but when choosing biryani, there are several essential ingredients that are needed. You will need:
Chicken (or any other poultry meat or fish) - you are going to use whole pieces of chicken to make most of the biryani, but if you are using chicken wings or roasts, substitute with the ones of whatever kind you like.
Sliced onion - the chopped onions can be found in every shop where you have chicken! It is an important ingredient because it makes the gravy thicker. Another important ingredient is paprika - its spice is extremely good to add to dishes such as biryani. If you don't like the taste of it, just use less powdered paprika (it works better to leave it).
Salt - it helps protect the chicken from becoming burnt.
Green chilies and curry powder - they help bring out the flavor by giving a refreshing flavour and texture. There's no need to use more than three to four cups. For example, 1 cup may require as much as 7 cups of water, while 2 cups should mean 12 cups of water.
Lemon juice - lemon is best for adding a bright twist to a chicken biryani. Make sure you choose lemon juice wisely as the more it is, the more intense the flavor will be.
Curry leaves - fresh curry leaves and curry paste have been useful in making biryani. They will make a huge difference in the final taste of the product. Try substituting the dried version instead - they will do the job just fine.
Fresh tomato and olive oil - these two things will keep the sauce from curdling. Use only fresh tomatoes for the sauce, otherwise any fresh vegetable would work better. Olive oil is also important because the sauce made from it can hold its shape very well, without being able to flow.
Fresh garlic - you won't find fresh garlic in grocery stores, but you can get dried garlic cubes available in many supermarkets. Keep it in the fridge if not serving it soon; otherwise it will become sticky and even harden. You wouldn't want to ruin the flavor of the dish with too much garlic, so cut off the small slivers before using! The same goes for the parsley and pepper seeds.
Thai basil - basil is a great herb that can be used in almost all soups. So, you might prefer to include a little bit of Thai basil (as much as possible) in your biryani instead of regular herbs, especially those we use to cook it in other places.
Fresh ginger - Ginger has a lot of nutrients, which is why it's great for getting rid of flatulence. Fresh ginger can also remove stubborn sugar and can improve the flavour of your biryani. You can use less fresh ginger than usual.
Fresh coriander leaves - This is another ingredient that is useful in biryani. Its leafy stem will keep the biryani warm. To add extra fresh flavor, you can add lots of this ingredient.
Fresh mint - Mint leaves, like basil, can be added on top of the biryani, which adds an instant additional flavour. In the case of egg yolks, you can add some of the egg yolks. And if you need to add fewer leaves, just buy enough to make a quarter of the biryani (or about 3 cups of water). You can also use crushed mint leaves.
Fresh lemon juice - lemon-based sauces are very popular. Lemon juice improves the taste and texture of the sauces. But if you want to avoid excessive sweetness or citrus, just add lemon juice to the mixture in a separate bowl so both can blend together. Don't forget to mix it up!
Fresh basil - Basil leaves can create a big effect in sauces and smoothies. So, you can use fresh basil to flavor the biryani and make it a bit richer. However, you shouldn't add any seeds to the biryani as it will lead to an unbalanced flavor. So, don't put a generous amount of basil in the Centre of the biryani.
Fresh cilantro - Fresh cilantro is helpful in reducing flatulence and enhancing flavors. A tiny bit of fresh cilantro goes a long way. Add it to the cream used in the sauce or you can use raw slices of cilantro. Cilantro leaves are useful too in the sauce.
Fresh jalapenos - Jalapenos are a common ingredient in many Thai dishes. They add some spicy flavor. Nowadays, you can find almost all types of jalapenos in the market. Also, most of them are packaged and you can easily get them by asking for them. For instance, you would need about 6 fresh jalapenos.
Fresh green peppers - Green peppers are full of antioxidants, which means they help reduce inflammation and get rid of heartburn. It is very easy to buy fresh green peppers and you can save money. It is the same time-saving system!
Fresh tomato juice - It doesn't matter if you're not sure the exact shape you want for your biryani or not. With fresh tomato juice, you need to choose how long you want to make the sauce and whether to cover the tomato juice or to scoop it out to make your biryani smaller. Do you want to make the sauce, or scoop it out?
Fresh Tulsa leaves (not used in the Biryani recipe) - Tullis (or Chinese gooseberry) is said to be a very strong detoxifier, which means they can effectively kill toxins and bad bacteria. Some people use Tulsa leaves for cleansing purposes. It's a very natural solution and so, it's safer for you if you want to drink it. We have tested it by drinking some Tulsa tea!
Fresh rosemary leaves (not used in the Biryani recipe) - Rosemary is known to fight against allergies and helps calm down your tummy when you have indigestion. It is very helpful in calming it down because your digestive system is usually affected during periods of stress. It is also great for digestive health.
Fresh lime juice - Lime juice has anti-inflammatory properties and is a great remedy for digestive problems. Choose orange for the sauce instead of lemon juice - lemon juice contains citric acid, while orange juice contains bicarbonate.
Water - Water is what makes everything go back to where it came from. It keeps this food from melting. When you cook the foods in a pan, the surface melts and the fluids start moving. That's called "water retention," but in order to avoid it, you should always check whether the pan is still warm or not by checking the bottom of the pot. If the pans are still warm, then the water will stay in the pan and you'll never notice the water sticking out of the sides of the pan. On the other hand, if the pans have cooled, then the water will run between the pan and the edge. This is called " water loss." You have to prevent water loss by keeping one cup of water in the pan and leave about 6 inches (20 cm) of space between it and the edge. Any larger gap will lead to more water loss.
Fresh black pepper (not used in the Biryani recipe) - Black Pepper has antibacterial properties and can add tang to any dish. This is very useful in killing mosquitoes and rats when you bite them. You can make this sauce by adding just black pepper to the sauce, either finely ground or pure crushed, and you can add this to the biryani just as long as you don't use too much.
Fresh cardamom - Cardamom can help control blood pressure and lower heart rate. It can also act like a vasodilator, which helps open the veins to make more blood flow. It helps remove excess fluid in the body. You can also add cardamom in any recipe. In addition to that, some cardamom can help with digestion. You can add red cardamom if you want.
Fresh turmeric - Turmeric is highly beneficial for stomach problems. It can make a real difference in the gut and can increase absorption of nutrients. If you want to make it more potent, you can add 1 tablespoon of freshly grated and raw mixed turmeric to the sauce and the biryani instead of mixing it. Once again, you can also make this sauce by just adding enough turmeric to the leftovers of the sauce to make a quarter of the biryani.
Fresh cloves- Cloves (or Spices), also known as the "King Of The Spice" play a vital role in biryani. These spices have antibacterial properties and can help eliminate mosquitoes, bugs, and other pests. Apart from that, they can help treat indigestion and relieve nausea. All of them can remove water and fat from the intestines, which makes bowel movements easier. Some cloves can also be used in their dishes to enhance taste and texture.
